Alvise Mattozzi is Assistant Professor of Social Studies of Science and Technology at the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering and fellow of the research center TheSeUs (Technology, Society, Humanity) both at the Politecnico di Torino (Italy). Before joining Politecnico di Torino in 2021, he has worked for more than 10 years at the Faculty of Design of the Free University of Bozen-Bolzano, where he, together with designer Kris Krois, has created the Master in Eco-Social Design, a two years graduate program aimed at fostering a dialogue between social sciences and design. There, he has taught a course called Social Studies of Design. His research is focused on the dialogue between design and social sciences within an Actor-Network Theory framework, using semiotics as descriptive methodology. On the one hand he has worked on elaborating a model in order to account for the agency and the mediation of technical objects, further developing the "script model" proposed in the 1980s by Madeleine Akrich and Bruno Latour, on the other hand, he has carried out researches on design practices. Since he joined the Department of Environment, Land and Infrastructure Engineering and the Research Center TheSeUs of the Politecnico di Torino, he is refocusing his research more on engineering design, contributing to the development of the mapping of controversies approach in relation to engineering project n the environment. After many years of work side by side with designers in academia, following teaching as well as design research projects, he considers himself a design researcher.
